Upcoming Events

As always, check the FMSD monthly calendar-at-a-glance that contains news about ALL known upcoming events.

This newsletter is LATE by several days, and I apologize.  I work for myself, and after months of slow business, things heated up and got all frantic.  I'm snatching a few moments here and there to get the word out today. I'm slowly setting up a system so that others can help me with the tedious stuff that tends to slow me down when processing data for the newsletter.

There is much, MUCH more that I could have included in this newsletter. I have a big ol' pile of backlogged articles, pictures and exciting news that I may get around to posting when I finally have a chance.

For those of you who were intrigued by my recent announcement of something completely new that was happening this last Wednesday, here is the story of what happened.

This is quite the frantically-busy week of events - Don't let ANYBODY tell you that the scene in San Diego is dead! We had 26 events for the month of November.

Tonight, Friday the 30th:

- 8:30PM SHARP, we will be meeting at the front door of the DMV in Hillcrest, in order to ride-share to the Men-Only Beat and Greet in Downtown San Diego.

Tomorrow, Saturday, December 1st:

- 4pm, we will be at Bourbon Street at 4612 Park Blvd for the Cigars & Boots Social.

Sunday, December 2nd:

- 10am, Whip Practice in the Park at Morley Field

- On Sunday at 5PM, it's the Social Event of the Season!

The Meatball Turkey Day Dinner is the big, jam-packed fundraiser at the Center at 3909 Centre St. that brings out enormous amounts of good-willed people.  The main Auditorium is generally sold-out. You can still get tickets, but hurry!  It's the only fundraiser I've ever seen where there is a line outside of folks hoping to get in. They always make a LOT of superb food, but they tend to run out because of the massive crowds.

Mr. San Diego Leather 2012 Aaron tells me that he and his team have gathered ENORMOUS quantities of donated items for the Silent Auction - It's probably the biggest collection that I have ever heard of, and I've been paying attention since around 1984. This tells me that San Diego's community is eager to contribute and celebrate some very good times together.

UPDATE:

The events on Wednesday, December 25th, have been canceled, for rather obvious reasons!

Sending Love and Including Our Brothers Who Are Far Away

On Wednesday, November 28th, we did something very, very modern.
Our brother leatherboy James recently shipped out, and has been adjusting to life on the other side of the earth in Afghanistan. He is going to need some time to fit into some very different circumstances.  During the transition-time, he has been a bit homesick, so we organized a Group Hug for James at our Men's Discussion:
That's him on my iPad, live from Afghanistan, letting us know that he is okay, and getting the love that he deserves.  James organized a Gear Night Dinner just before he shipped out, and he plans to do more community leadership once he gets back.

Here's to his safe return!

We will continue to do this same thing as time goes by, because several of our brothers are elsewhere on behalf of our military, and Skype and other services are free of cost for this sort of thing.

Whip Practice in the Park

From Drew:

As I restart this practice which has run on and off for more than a decade I have had some good suggestions and I have picked a new place for our first meeting.  The time was to meet as many people’ needs as I could.  I am considering having the meetings for odd months on Saturday mornings to cover the second most requested time frame.

Practice Stand - (whip this instead of people)

The practice place we will try the first month is a grassy area around some picnic tables just north of the parking lot for the Kearn’s Memorial Swimming Pool in the Morley Field Complex.  Finding me should be easy you just get to the corner of Texas St. and Upas St. and turn into the complex on the extension of Texas St.  As you drive into the complex and approach the pool, the parking lot on your left is where to park.

Just north of the parking lot is a group of picnic tables and I will be at one of them.  There are several suitable areas with good grass to the East of the picnic tables and we will not have to spread out much to have room to accommodate a large number of people practicing.  There are also public restrooms in the tennis complex to the west of our meeting area.  If we end up in conflict with any other users of the facilities there are a few place just to the east we could walk to.

This is a public place and dress and behavior should be appropriate.  The intent is to build skills with single tail whips so you might want to improvise a target/target stand but I plan to bring at least one I would be happy to share.  I also bring a number of loaner whips for those without whips and I am always willing to coach a bit if you want some help.  Let’s make sure we leave the place as nice as or nicer than we find it.

Happy cracking, Drew

Wonderful Photography Show

I'm pretty sure that I have never, ever seen so many superb photographers at one time, who have such a keen interest in men of kink, fetish and leather.  I guess that it is because we are so darned visibly interesting and vivid when you give us a chance!

This Saturday, December 1st (right after Cigars & Boots at Bourbon Street), they are showcasing the work of JayPG Photography.

This is a JayPG portrait of my leather
family during LA Leather Pride in March 2012.

Alert: Tonight's Events

We went from NO events last Wednesday (due to Thanksgiving weekend starting early), to the most-exciting ones ever held on a Wednesday night in San Diego's gay fetishmen community. It's all happening tonight:

-=-=-=-=-=-

6PM: PLANNING MEETING

I will be bringing everybody up to date on what is tentatively being called "Our Loving Culture" weekend, February 1-3, 2013.  We're doing a whole weekend of cultural events that will attract a lot of out-of-towners. We will be celebrating local artists, artisans, wise elders, vibrant youth, celebrate our history and our future, and have a lot of fun that won't COST us to death. It's 100% about getting back to our basics and being brothers to the community all over Southern California.

I'm being coy about details because we still need to get all of our ducks in a row. If the current plans hold steady, this is going to be REALLY BIG, and really meaningful. Anybody who has ever been to Mid-Atlantic Leather Weekend has come home swearing that it is the most powerful expression of true brotherhood they've ever seen, and I think San Diego can easily pull off something just as authentic, but with a different itinerary.

Tonight's Planning Meeting is where we will all contribute ideas (there are already many of them, from at least thirty people), make the first solid plans, and build teamwork so that everybody succeeds and gains glory. Our Loving Culture Weekend won't be a lot of work, just shared intentions and good will. If all goes well, it's meant to be ultra-inexpensive, too.

-=-=-=-=-=-

7PM: INNOVATIVE NEW WAY TO SHOW BROTHERHOOD

I'm intentionally going to be frustratingly vague, but you will DEFINITELY want to be present, in time for this portion of the evening's pleasantries. We will be showing a lot of love for one of our brothers in a way that no affinity-group has ever done, ever before (as far as I am aware).  You're going to be unhappy if you miss it.

There will be pictures and a story from me afterward in the newsletter, but I invite you to come and be a part of history in the making. The more, the merrier.

This one is going to go viral, worldwide.

-=-=-=-=-=-

7:15PM-ONWARD: PADDLING LESSONS, ALL LEVELS

On the fourth Wednesday of each month, we go from TALKING about stuff, to DOING stuff with our hands-on workshops. Last month, we had so many men show up for FLOGGING, ALL LEVELS, the usual oval arrangement of chairs became a rectangle because we filled up the entire perimeter of the meeting space. Nobody wanted to leave, and I'm pretty certain that there were still men there at P&T's 11PM closing time.

This picture shows how happy and close everyone was. Nobody was left out. After the instruction portion, we cleared the chairs and had the Tops on one side, the bottoms on the other, and the Lookyloos over yonder. By the end of the evening, all of the Lookyloos had given in to temptation, and had gotten happily involved.

Tonight's workshop should be just as unified, fun and satisfying.  If paddling is not your scene, that's no big deal. Nobody will be pressured in any way. Teddy is a phenomenal new instructor, and your host for the evening will be our own Mr. San Diego Leather 2012 Aaron.

-=-=-=-=-=-

The entire evening is set to be a powerful affirmation of our Tribe's unity and deep levels of mutual trust and affection. You have every right to be a part of it!

Upcoming Events

RECENT ARTICLES

UPCOMING EVENTS

As always, for a full listing of all known upcoming events, click here, and I've recently written an article on how to get the best use out of the FMSD Events Calendar.  I'm open to suggestions on how to make it better!

This being a holiday week, there will be relatively fewer events to announce.  No Wednesday events tonight.

I plan to be at the Dress It Up/Strip It Down Gear Night at the Eagle this Friday, and the Uniform Night at the Eagle this Saturday currently shows up as a repeat of the Dress It Up scene. Same crowd, same gear. Very nice for a leather/fetish bar on a weekend.

Things get more Large Social Event-Oriented in early December:

- On Sunday, December 2 at 5PM, the big, annual, splashy Meatball Turkey Day Dinner 3 will be at the Center. This one really jams the crowd into the Center's big auditorium. Personally, I love dressing up for this big benefit, because I get to see a lot of fine, admirable folks that I haven't seen in years. It's the place to see and be seen!

- On Friday, December 7th at 7PM, it's the big annual Inter-Club Holiday Party at the Joyce Beers Community Center. I'm asking ALL of my brothers in FMSD to show up for this event. It's a hoot, and it's like a three-ring circus - Lots of fun activities that mix the members of the various local kinkster clubs together, in a great big Family Reunion event. Peaceful, serene, affectionate and fun!

- Two days afterward, on Sunday, December 9th at 5PM at Numbers, there is the Leather and Lace Benefit for Special Delivery at Numbers.

Review of Women's Gear Social

On Sunday, November 18, the women of the local kink community invited their brothers from FMSD to show support for a geared-up social event at Numbers.

Here is what I wrote afterward to the guys who attended:

-=-=-=-=-

I think yesterday's event was one of the VERY happiest times for me since I started FMSD, and it was all because of you.

I have been club-presidenting since 1981, and I am keenly aware that any group (no matter how large) is only as good as its inner, Golden Core of true brothers.  I saw you beautiful men at your absolute best, and I couldn't have been prouder of every one of you.

You were ALL being ambassadors for the men of the Tribe… Standing tall, being charming and fun, and willing to go along with whatever showed up (being whipped by women?  Interesting).  You participated in 100% appropriate and majestic ways, willing to be flexible from moment to moment.

In the past, the men and women of the community have had issues. The women told me over and over again that they had never, ever seen such a loving turnout of men for a women's event.

The bottom line is that we have proven that FMSD can attract and retain the very best of our community. If I had a bunch of trophies, I'd be handing them around right now.  I'm finding it hard to fully explain WHY this means so much in the long run, but you have cemented the image of FetishMenSanDiego as a Tribe that can bring out the best men out when it really matters.  I have been doing a lot of deep observation of the patterns of interpersonal dynamics in crowds and between individuals, for my whole adult life, and I would score all of you at 100%.

I doubt that we will need to do this again, in exactly this same way. We were honoring Wish's requests for her first event of its kind, and we all did so, and very kindly.  You sweet men were so typically amiable, open and available for new possibilities… This is why I love you!

I mean, really - LOOK at the joy and brotherhood in this picture.  It clangs like a bell!

Joyce Beers Community Center

Once and for all, I want to make it easy for somebody to find the Joyce Beers Community Center.  I have two entirely wrong addresses for the place, and it's all too confusing.  So, here is my attempt to make it easy to find:

How to Get the Most Out of the FMSD Calendar of Events

We are averaging at least twenty events per month that would be of interest to gay fetishmen in the San Diego area. In the old days, we had no way of knowing what was coming up, because we don't hang out in the same venues, like we did in the days before the Internet. We also no longer read the gay newspapers.

So, I created the FMSD email list, calendar and so forth. That way, our brothers can feel connected with the larger community. It's working great!

MY NEWSLETTER

Every week, I send out a compilation of interesting news, links, photos and updates.  It has a lot of entertainment value. I get zero payment for any of this - It is not a sales tool. You can sign up for the emailed newsletter here. You can also follow it on Facebook, or on Twitter. I use the dated items of the newsletter to update the calendar:

Upcoming Events, Version 2.0

THIS NEWSLETTER HAS RADICALLY CHANGED!

Thanks to the excellent advice of the wise and wonderful Race Bannon in San Francisco, I'm doing a complete re-thinking of how the FMSD team will be putting out news about upcoming events so that:

- it doesn't take so much darned energy and time.

- There will be a month-at-a-glance calendar, and

- It will work properly and update automatically on any device.

Things will be very different from this point onward, but my intention is to make this process a lot easier, simpler and quicker for all concerned.  I'd like to spread the work around a bit more, so that it's not all on my shoulders.  I have many, many dear friends that want to help, and soon, they will be able to!

Click here to check out the beta version FMSD Events calendar-at-a-glance. Please help me test it out, and give your feedback. I'd like to streamline it thoroughly.

The most important thing for me is to find out if you are able to CLICK LINKS within the calendar that bring you directly to a web-page that gives full details with pictures.

- If not, please tell me what platform you are viewing it on.

- If yes, send me a screen-shot of the link as you see it before clicking on it.

From now on, I'm only sending out a weekly newsletter that merely announces anything new or interesting, and you will only have to click on the permanent calendar link to see EVERYTHING.

IN BRIEF:

Tonight's Planning Meeting  (6PM), Men's Discussions (7PM), and Puppy Night (9PM) are all still happening, just as planned.

This weekend is going to be NUTS at the Eagle - I'm predicting a line outside on both Friday and Saturday night. It's their Tenth Anniversary Weekend, and it's all about gear, with a contest and prizes.

Friday is the Beat and Greet.

Saturday is the LL Bear Dance Party.

Sunday is the Women's Gear Social. I would love to see LOTS of my kinky brothers in gear, as our sisters have requested.

CORRECTION:

I got the date wrong in last week's newsletter for the BearNight Dance. It's December 1st, not the 8th.

Women's Gear Social

Sunday, Nov. 18, from 4-7PM:

Women's Gear Social at Numbers, at 3811 Park Blvd.

Our sisters are inviting their brothers to gear up and JOIN them for this first event of its kind!  This is the time of year when we have Family Reunion-style events, and this is a breakthrough kind of event for the women of our community.  The men of FMSD get to have these events all of the time, and I hope that this will be a strong, repeating tradition for our female compatriots!

LL Bear Dance Party

Third Saturday of each month, 9:30PM-2AM: LL Bear Dance Party @ Rich's, at 1051 University. Lots of leathermen attend this event. Shirtless with a harness appears to be the dress code!

Dress It Up/Strip It Down

4th Friday of each month, 9PM-1AM: DRESS IT UP/STRIP IT DOWN at the Eagle, at 3040 North Park WayHosted by Mr. San Diego Eagle 2012 Eli. It's the nicest, friendliest crowd you'll see at a leather bar. Here are a few reviews, if you haven't been to one yet. Dress to impress if you've got the gear, or show us some skin - I promise you'll be glad that you did. Here are some pictures from Oct.FebruaryMarchAprilJune and September. Notice how HAPPY everybody is. You deserve to be that happy too.

Wear your hottest, sexiest gear - Leather, uniform, rubber, fetishwear. You know - the stuff that you can never find a good reason to wear in public, so that it normally gathers dust in your closet. It's time to shake the dust off!  If it makes your dick hard when you wear it, we want to see it.

Or, if you don't have any of that stuff, we want to see you with your shirt off.

We really, really do.

At this point, when I'm greeting a new guy at an event, and I tell him that, he gets all hung-up, worried that his body isn't "perfect enough". SCREW that. We're ALL worried about not being able to match up to the heavily-photoshopped porn that we see every day.

Here's the good news - At FMSD events, you can be yourself... relaxed, happy and secure.  We want every age, every color, every body-syle, every experience-level. There's no "A-List" here. We are all on the same level, and we are all dying to relax and leave the concerns outside.  We're gay men in the modern internet age, and we all know what a dick looks like, so the sex part is handled already.

Now, it's time to add in even more brotherhood.

At our events, everybody clusters together within about a foot of each other, leaving the rest of the bar empty. It is so very Tribal. New, shy guys forget to be shy, and just dive right in.

If it's brotherhood you've been wanting, then get your ass away from the computer - The Real Thing is here. We want you to be with us.  Just be a nice man, be proud of who you are, and you're in.

Men-Only Beat And Greet

FIFTH Friday of each month, 8:30PM-1AM:

MEN-ONLY Fri. NIGHT BEAT AND GREET, downtown, hosted by Bryan Teague - American Leatherboy and Mike Underwood - San Diego's very own Curmudgeonly teddy bear.

The Men-Only version is on the FIFTH Fri. of each month, such as Nov 30 of 2012, and Mar 29, May 31, Aug 30 and Nov 29 of 2013. There will be hands-on training for folks who want to learn from experts in a very safe environment.

BearNight Dance

First Saturday of each month, 9PM-2AM; BearNight Dance at Numbers, at 3811 Park Blvd

$5 before 10PM.

Lots of leathermen attend this event, and it comes highly recommended…

Uniform Night

Second Saturday of each month, 9PM onward: UNIFORM NIGHT at the Eagle, at 3040 North Park Way. Wear Military Gear or Civil Uniform Gear.

Cigars & Boots

First Saturday of every month, 4-7PM: CIGARS & BOOTS.

As of 7 June 2015, Redwing Bar & Grill, at 4012 30th Street, San Diego CA 92104-2602 is our host bar, out on the patio in the back.  Don't worry about eating before you come, as the kitchen will be open. Please come out and join us whether you are a seasoned smoker, or curious to learn.  Here are some reviews.

The Facebook page for this group is:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/sdcigarsandboots/

Hey Papa Tony,
Thanks for sending all the updates for what has been going on in town fetish-wise. I have not been going out much but plan to change that soon. I am moving and came across my late partner's Dehners. They are in very close to new condition and were only wore to Folsom once and for play a few times. They are the stock version. I am willing to let them go for $175 making them an excellent bargain for those with big feet. ;-)
