Upcoming Events

All of the local bars and restaurants are actively promoting Halloween-themed events this weekend, since it IS the Gay High Holy Days.  It's a nice bonus that Halloween occurs on Saturday - That means that there will be TWO nights (Friday and Saturday) to show off your costume. Check the listings for for my take on the biggest party on Saturday.

-=-=-=-=-=-UPCOMING EVENTS

Friday, Oct. 28, 9PM: SPANK THIS at the Eagle. Watch TJ Wood spank FRATBOY.com's Noah Brooks live and in the FLESH. Giveaways from SpankThis and ManKind Video.

Sat. Oct. 29: NIGHTMARE ON NORMAL STREET. This is the biggest gay-specific party in town, and it's a lot of fun. The people-watching is intense, and the humorous themes of the many of the costumes are my favorite part ("Mighty Mormon Power Rangers"? Hilarious!)  I've already got my tickets. If you want to wear a full-on cop uniform, you can, and you won't be hassled by the many relaxed, somewhat bored cops all around. Here is a nice video clip from 2007.

Wed. Nov. 2, 9PM: PUPPY NIGHT at the Eagle, hosted by Beep and San Diego Puppy Play (SDPP). First Wed. of each month.
Wed. Nov. 2, 7-9PM: MEN'S MONTHLY DISCUSSIONS, hosted by FetishMenSanDiego and San Diego League of Gentlemen. Moderated by Papa Tony. This has turned out to be ideal for building friendships by getting to know men outside of the bar/cruising scene.
Thu. Nov. 3, 9-11PM: Yellow Hankie Beverage Bust at the Eagle. First and Third Thu. of each month.

Fri. Nov. 4, 7-9PM; SDLOG educational event: This month's topic is Sounds and Pumping. First Fri. of each month. at the Joyce Beers Community Centerbetween the Terra and Aladdin restaurants by Ralph's supermarket on University.

Sun. Nov. 6, 5-8PM: The 2nd Annual Meatball Turkey Day Dinner will be on the weekend before Palm Springs Leather Pride. Be sure to read my review from a year ago, and get there early! Last year's event was a breakthrough, showing how San Diego's community can pull together and overbook a major fundraiser at a huge auditorium. The folks in charge of it are the best guys that I know, and they have a lot of excellent talent, volunteers and well-wishers lined up behind them. I plan to be there, taking Social Column pictures all night. It's going to be that kind of event.

Sat. Nov. 5, 9PM-2AM; BearNight Dance at Numbers. $5 cover. First Sat. of each month. Lots of leathermen attend this event, and it comes highly recommended… Here are some reviews.

Fri. Nov.11, 9PM-1AM: DRESS IT UP/STRIP IT DOWN at the Eagle; 2nd Fri. of each month. It's the nicest, friendliest crowd you'll see at a leather bar. Here are a few reviews, if you haven't been to one yet. Dress to impress if you've got the gear, or show us some skin - I promise you'll be glad that you did. Here are some pictures from Oct.FebruaryMarchAprilJune and September. -=-=-=-=-=- STATUS REPORT FOR FMSD

After a year and a half, FMSD continues to grow in membership. The quality of the attendees at our events is becoming more and more apparent. When I first started the group, I was frantically trying to get the group's engines revving, and I felt that it was crucial to build some momentum. Well, that worked out great, but now we have reached a wonderful point of brotherhood for the men who are the most active with the group.

Now, it's all about the relaxing together. San Diego's kinky male community is mellow, unified, peaceful, and brotherly. As a result, we're seeing a LOT of younger men showing up and staying around for more events. For the last few decades, this had not been the case. There are many events in town that cater to the younger crowd, hosted by groups such as the Puppy Patrol, TNG and CubClub. Everybody is now mixing and mingling together in amiable good will.

To me, this is a sign of a robust and thriving community. When big, high-status community events come up such as the Mr. San Diego Eagle contest (usually in February), San Diego Leather Pride including the Mr. San Diego Leather Contest (usually in March) and the upcoming 2nd Annual Meatball Turkey Day Dinner, we pull together in massive numbers. In each of those cases from last year, an outside observer would notice how kind everyone is. When it is time for the crowd to be quiet in order to hear a speech, the entire gathering goes DEAD SILENT, out of sheer courtesy.  Many communities in other cities would gladly pay a million bucks for that kind of camaraderie.

As you can see below, we have a lot of regularly-scheduled events coming up, with a few special events in the mix.  If you haven't been out for a while, you couldn't wish for a better environment for building new, real and lasting friendships. We're just getting started!

Workshop Description:
PADDLES beyond punishment!  The many uses of wood paddles, presented by Chris Wiese
Paddling is a large part of BDSM Play. There are many different types of paddles available in the marketplace.  Each has its own karma based on the materials used in construction.  Paddles constructed of wood vary based on the type of tree or shrub.  Fortunately for us, there are some very exotic woods available that make many wood paddles a piece of art as well.  People buy them because they are beautifully variegated and nice to look at, have wonderful markings, or because of the hardness and different impacts.  Never are two exactly the same as nature designs each wood differently.
How you use a paddle is the most important part of playing with one.  Like every other implement in your toy bag, it is not the toy but the person using it that makes the difference.  One person can take the hardest of wood paddles and use it very sensually. Another might just use it for pain, but not be aware of the damage it can do.
In this workshop, our presenter Chris will guide you through the proper use of wood paddles during BDSM play.  Chris will cover how to safely use a paddle, from body parts and position, to how to swing that paddle in your hand. His goal in this workshop “is to educate people and show them they are not just used for punishment or heavy scenes, but are also for the more sensual and lighter play scenes. This workshop includes time for demo and audience interaction.

Presenter Bio:
Chris has been making paddles now for over 10 years. He has been active in the BDSM community for 20 plus years in San FranciscoLos Angeles and nowSan Diego. He has presented previously on The Use of Paddles for SD North County. Chris has vended his beautiful paddles at Club X play parties and Leather Realm 2011.

-=-=-=-=-=- PUPPY NIGHT IS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT

Here is a letter I received recently, which explains the changes coming up for Puppy Night at the Eagle:

Hello Papa Tony!

It's puppy Beep in San Diego (Mikeys boyfriend from The Eagle). I wanted to ask if you'll take a look at our flyer and pass it around for me. It's the new flyers for puppy night at the San Diego Eagle. I would really appreciate it! I'm going to be the new host for puppy night starting October 5th.

I have a lot of fun stuff planned. Just to give you an idea here's a few new things on what to expect:

-Mankind is sponsoring it and will be donating some fun stuff to be raffled off or for prizes (like porn, lube, sex toys, underwear)
-B.Y.O.B. (Bring your own [dog] Bowl) policy. I want to serve pitchers of beer in dog bowls
-I'm working on making some adoption forms for people to fill out who want to adopt a pup looking for a home lol
-Also I will be using the cage as a kennel for bad dogs

These are just a few of many ideas I have for the future of puppy night. I want to spend the first couple events really trying to bring as many people out as possible and introduce them into the puppy life style and like what you always say, educate them on what it's all about and how much fun it can be! I hope to see you there if you can make it!

Woof,
Beep
