Friday Night Beat and Greet

Friday Night Beat and Greet
Hosted by Bryan Teague - American Leatherboy 2010, Caryl, Mike Underwood, Josh, Jerry and PuP
Downtown San Diego Dungeon - Email for information - addresses below.
Friday March 16, 8:30 pm - 1:00 am -- Doors close at 11:30pm!
The Friday Beat and Greet is usually held on the 3rd and 5th Fridays each month.
This event is open to people age 18 and above.
Soft drinks and water will be available at the dungeon, we are asking for $1.00 donation for each drink.
This social/ impact play event is for friendly people who would like to learn more about flogging, paddling and the like. We'll be demonstrating techniques on eager volunteers and curing the curiosities of those who have questions. Nothing too wild, just pleasantly kinky enough to bring a smile that lasts a while!
Please bring a flogger, paddle, cane or two with you, if you have one. This will help you learn with your own toys. If you do not have toys, we do have toys you may use.
Do not be intimidated by coming to a dungeon or being in the night life of Downtown San Diego, this event is open to all levels of experience, and beginners are particularly welcome. If you're new to this sort of thing, you can always trust that you'll end up with a positive experience. You'll be surrounded by very, very nice folks who have a lot of expertise and a deep level of trust with each other. We've been doing this a long time, and we like to share what we now.
This is not your typical BDSM event, it's not a fundraiser, a workshop, or a class really. Even though teaching and learning will be involved, Friday Night Beat and Greets are just a pleasant way to share some good times in a relaxed kinky setting. We all need to get the heck out of the house once in a while - why not hang out with some folks that enjoy doing what you enjoy doing?
There is no charge to attend the event, we just ask that you leave any Attitude outside the door, be playful and open-hearted!
Things to keep in mind for this event:
This event is held in a private space; however, you are responsible for your own actions at all times. Safety measures will be in place during the event. Please bring a valid ID and be prepared to sign a liability form. All information given will be kept confidential.
Because Dungeon Servitus resides within the confines of a residential and commercial building, we ask that you act and dress appropriately anywhere outside of the dungeon.
Anyone behaving in a manner that is considered inappropriate will be asked to leave the property and may not be allowed reentry for future events. The decisions of the Dungeon Servitus staff and hosts are final.
Please note a few things about the Beat and Greet:
1) The maximum capacity is 50 people. There is a chance you may be asked to wait until someone leaves before being permitted to enter.
2) In order to allow everyone a chance to try things, we ask that you limit your time on the play equipment to a short time. If there are people waiting, we may ask you to wrap up your time on the equipment after 10 minutes.
3) This is a community event that is hosted by members of the community. Membership in any club or organization is not required.
For more information about the Beat and Greets, please contact Bryan at info@beatandgreet.com or Caryl at caryl-cx@earthlink.net
Hope to see you there!

Review Of Belt Party On March 10th, 2012

Well, it went exactly as I would have predicted, if anybody had asked me beforehand. The turnout this time around was MUCH bigger than the one in December (I hear that there were around 400 attendees).  Evidently, everybody who went the last time invited their friends along for the second one. The place was becoming intolerably crowded, up until they opened up the second half of Numbers at 11PM.

I only took two pictures (I was kind of busy), but they sure do tell the story. This one shows the crowd on the dance floor as it actually was, lit up by the flash on my camera. These guys were there to show off what they've got!   I'm pretty sure that you, the guy reading this right now, would have fit in quite well, wouldn't you?

This next picture shows the crowd lit up by the club's lighting, and it gives a better representation of how it FELT to be there in the dizzying kaleidoscope, dancing with your shirt off, sweating, uninhibited and happy.

It was a VERY HOT PARTY.  I'm a great community organizer, but it's simply not my overall goal to provide raunchy, sweaty, hot and intimate parties that bring out the howling horn-dogs.  It's a great pleasure to see the men of CubClub (and Chris from the BearNight monthly dance parties) stepping up to the plate and doing it better and better every time.

As before, I only saw the organizers in brief blurs as they shot around the whole building, handling what needed to be handled so that the overall experience was the best possible for the largest number of people. That's what people do when they are committed to excellence. I also noticed a good quarter of the people who attended were unofficially "on duty". They were there with tails wagging, trying to figure out how they could help make the event a success. It was a community effort, and these folks were responding to leadership in its purest form.

So, what was it like?

It depends on your viewpoint. There was a group of guys from Los Angeles there, and they were NOT happy. They showed up in around $3,000 worth of Langlitz leather each, in three layers!  I had very little on, and I was sweating like a P-I-G pig!  They were distressed because there were women present. I didn't know what to say to make them feel better, and they left soon afterwards. I used to feel the same way, because all that I had ever known was the tiny sub-sub-culture that comprised "gay leathermen".  We are all now shifting past that, out of being a sub-sub-culture, past sub-culture and into the larger culture, thanks to the Internet.

Everybody else that night was experiencing varying degrees of being high on the endorphins of Communal Joy.  Those of us who have been attending many recent events already knew what to expect, so we relaxed right away.  The new faces I saw (about half of the crowd) looked determined to figure out what was going on, so that they could mesh better with the rest of us.

As I've said before, the level of mutual trust is growing in our community.  This shows up as mellow, unified and satisfied people attending every event. Nobody has to go into Self-Protective Mode, so nobody freaks out. Every time I approached somebody to invite them to get on my list, I'd say "Listen to the crowd.  You can't fake that kind of happiness". Nobody could disagree with that.

The crowd was diverse as all hell, and the energy-level was wonderful. LOTS of happy chattering, lusty cruising, playful behaviors, and ecstatic dancing. I wandered around the party at the beginning, cracking my singletail whip to get the crowd's endorphins pumping. Then, I did some flogging, and Anthony took over the next shift after I was done. I really regret not having gotten some pictures of him in action - He's pretty-much the perfect example of the concept of "Flogging Topman".

I wish that I could have been in sixteen places at once, because I missed out on so much - there simply was no single focus of energy. There was a constant shifting of dynamics from place to place all night long.  Spike was on the patio shining boots, with cigar-smokers gathered around. The dance-floors were crowded and jumping. DJ Shane Stiel provided exactly the kind of music that everybody wanted… I've ever seen him disappoint a crowd. The performers were numerous, raunchy-fun, and super-friendly. Everybody was on target, and nothing was left to chance.

In 2012, we have more choices than I've seen for decades; they are all REALLY GOOD CHOICES, and they keep getting better. We are greatly blessed by having lots and lots of good people pulling together to make our community a really welcoming, fun and playful space.

The next one will be at Numbers again, on Saturday, July 21, 2012 during Pride Weekend in San Diego. I will be providing more details as soon as I get them.

-=-=-=-=- EXCELLENT LOCAL SOURCE OF LEATHER GEAR

I'm sure that some folks reading this already know about this, but it's all news to me - I wanted to get a new leather jacket, and I was quite prepared to spend some serious bucks for one that actually FITS me.  I have "heroic proportions" that make me damned hard to fit for gear. I was searching Google for "Custom Leather Jacket" and saw a listing that said "San Diego":
San Diego Leather Inc
340 National City Blvd
National City, CA 91950
(619) 829-2517

I looked at the Web site - "Leather.com" - How cool is that? Tandy Leather, which owns Radio Shack, which ALSO owns Fry's Electronics, tried to buy the domain-name from them for $50,000. No deal. The store seemed to be a nice place, with very cost-effective gear, but I was doubtful - I have seen some creepy-cheap leather jackets made from mystery hides in far-away lands, and I didn't want to trust them until I saw what they actually offered.
I decided to head down to National City to check them out in person. It was a quiet Monday morning, so I had the place pretty-much to myself. I wandered past the racks of shirts, vests and jackets to the rack topped by a motorcycle jacket.  I wondered what size would fit me, looked at the size 52's, and all three motorcycle jackets in that size fit me perfectly… Perfectly.  This is not normal for me. They even fit my apelike arms. I had doubts about the fit of one of the epaulets on one side of the first jacket I looked at, but the third jacket that I tried was perfect for me. It was comfortable, was quality-built, and had a very nice "drape" to the leather. It didn't scream "cheap cardboard crappy bargain leather", as I had feared beforehand.

The jacket cost me $179, and I think that it was the most-expensive model they offer. I would have been perfectly willing to pay quite a bit more, frankly. Watch for me wearing it at future events.

Looking around, I saw that the usual demographic that shops there is Harley-riding motorcycle groups. As a result, there are plenty of "Fashion Leather" items that simply didn't appeal to a kinky gay male like me who doesn't ride a motorcycle, but there was plenty of stuff that DID appeal, mixed right in. Lots of gear for women. I saw several racks of chapsanimal tails that the Puppy-play crew would like quite a bit, and a big rack of leather gloves. I also bought a very nice whip for fourteen bucks that has turned out to be a real treat to use this morning, after being flexed for a few hours to break it in. I might be throwing it around at the BELT PARTY on Saturday. It was the only whip they had, so I really lucked out.

I'm told that they are selling Harley-Davidson boots at 50% off, because the manufacturer lost their franchise.  I didn't investigate further, because, frankly, I've got too many pairs of boots already. Maybe somebody else can do that for me.

Upcoming Events

This weekend is basically the social event of the season. Period. If you're sitting on your ass at home on Friday or Saturday, you have nobody to blame but yourself.  If you have any desire to be a part of a thriving brotherhood, then it's all been laid out like a banquet, and you just need to show up.

Myself, I'm planning to be at the Creating Change Men's Discussion on Wednesday - I wrote up a new article about it, and my main point is that we have a Guaranteed Safe Space where men can be DEEP, thoughtful and relaxed among like-minded men. And, it's successful as all hell. For my tastes, I can't imagine anything nicer than that. Right after that, it's time for the ridiculously popular PUPPY NIGHT at the Eagle.

Then, Friday is the combined Dress It Up/Strip It Down Gear Party and STUD PARTY at the Eagle. I am expecting a huge turnout, based on the feedback I'm getting.

On Saturday, the BELT PARTY at Numbers is easily going to take over the entire bar - both halves. I can't even begin to tell you how many simultaneous kinky things will be happening at all times - Flogging, boot-shining, caning, electric play, bondage, and oh, yeah - dancing. The word went out about the last one, and a lot of people are determined not to miss out. I will be one of the featured performers, so leave me some elbow-room!

Men's Discussions

Men's Discussions - Every Wednesday of each month, 7-9pm. Cost: free to all, but an entirely optional donation is requested.

The weekly Men's Discussions are only a small part of the events each month in San Diego that might attract kinky/leather/fetish men that are on the FMSD mailing-list, but they are absolutely the deepest part.

Many men are tired of silly, empty bar-chatter and Internet flakes, and want to talk about things that really matter. We never know when it is time to be idealistic, or passionate, or open-hearted, and too much time goes by while we wait for the right opportunity. We want to gain wisdom from others while we share our own hard-gained knowledge, but we sure as heck aren't going to find any of that on Grindr. Or Twitter.

Past topics: Tips for bottoming for the first time, dealing with excessive religious programming, how to deal with unwelcome attention (without being a jerk), submission vs. being in service, one-sided relationships, and so on. This is where you can bring your questions and get them answered!

In too much of our society, the guys with the "best" genetics, or the biggest muscles, or the most money are the folks who get the most approval. At the Men's Discussions, the more authentic you are, the more fully self-expressed you are, and the KINDER you are, the more friendships you might gain… The ones that could last you for the next forty years.

For too long, the gap between the generations has caused too many of us to have to re-invent the wheel, because we lacked access to wise, kind and caring role-models, or the fresh, exciting new perspectives of younger minds.

Our culture has gone from no Internet at all, to way too much Internet. It's making us Socially Retarded.  The Men's Discussions are meant to help us all bring our social lives back into balance, so that we can build up our interpersonal skills, get to know each other on an open, friendly level, and invest in the larger community again. It's the best tool we have for rebuilding the Tribe!

Arrive a little bit earlier, if you would like to be included in the plans for upcoming events. We've got a dedicated team, and we can alway use more idealistic brothers!
