Happy Howl-Oween!

Happy Howl-Oween Gents!

This post is just to wish you all a happy and safe Halloween! Keep posted for an update on events and workshops coming up! For now, don't forget that Gear Invasion is tomorrow at the Ken Theatre in Kensington!

Happy Halloween! Let us know about your Tricks & Treats in the blog comments or on our Facebook Group and Like Page!

Gear Invasion - Tom of Finland

Come and Join the Fun on November 1st, at The Historic Landmark Ken Theater for the Film based on the Life of Tom of Finland! Wear Your Favorite Leather Gear in Celebration of the Man who inspired the Revolution.

Known to the world as Tom of Finland, the proudly erotic drawings of artist Touko Laaksonen shaped the fantasies of a generation gay men, influencing art and fashion before crossing over into the wider cultural consciousness. But who was the man behind the leather? Dome Karukoski’s stirring biopic follows his life from the trenches of WWII and repressive Finnish society of the 1950s through his struggle to get his work published in California, where he and his art were finally embraced amid the sexual revolution of the 1970s. Tom’s story is one of love, courage and perseverance, mirroring the gay liberation movement for which his leather-clad studs served as a defiant emblem.

Make sure to be at the Historic San Diego Ken Cinema to come together with our brothers and sisters in leather, for a night of rejoice and pride in Who We Are. There will be a raffle in support of the Leather Foundation* during this event, so please help by giving back where you can!

*The Leather Foundation is a 501c3 that helps those in need here in San Diego, and also provides condoms and lube for safer sex practices for social events.

Even if you are part of our central San Diego group, let me know what part of the town we're reaching you in!

I'd also like to take a moment and thank all of you who've reached out in regards to teaching, being mentors, attending events with new folk, etc. Without you, I don't think I would have the mental faculties to make everything work! If you're interested in giving back to your brothers, check out our new Volunteer Program and see what we're doing to give back!

IV. From ME to YOU

Howdy Gents! If you haven't seen already, we have finally released our new Volunteer Program which has been modeled after the volunteer systems of many of the clubs in San Diego. We have modified to suit OUR needs, and also worked it in such a way that it benefits YOU for your service to FMSD. If you haven't had the chance to look over it, please take a moment and do so!

I am also very happy to announce that we are now scheduling out the next year's worth of events, and securing more and more venues as we go! With the first year of my leadership of Fetish Men San Diego wrapping up, I can honestly say that this club has done so much good for me that I can't thank you, my brothers, enough! Had it not been for you, and for the support, trust, and friendship you've bestowed in me to this point, I don't know that I could have done this all!

So thank you. Thank you a hundred times over, for supporting me when I fumbled and when I charged. I hope for your continued support as we wrap up this year and move in to the next! We have a lot of great classes, workshops, events and discussions planned, and everything just becomes more and more real the more you are involved! With that, I will wrap this up and look forward to seeing you all at Masques & Mischief on Friday Night!

I. Thank You & Volunteers

First, I want to thank you for taking the time to read this posting. In an organization like this, the involvement of our membership as volunteers is imperative for continued success and growth. Without YOU, this club can not and will not thrive; so again, Thank You for considering becoming a part of our Volunteer Program.

Volunteers come in several different forms. From Ambassadors who are willing to be visible members of FMSD to welcome the new folk, to Dungeon Monitors ensuring that our members are playing safely within the Dungeon Space and Guidelines, to our very own Leadership Positions -- No volunteer position is any more important than the next, and all are needed for the success of Fetish Men San Diego. As you go through this post, you'll learn more about our Volunteer Program, keeping in mind that some positions will be added/removed as events require them.

If you find that Volunteering isn't in the cards for you right now, we completely understand - but please keep an open mind, and encourage our Brothers to take a look, you never know who the next diamond in the rough will be!

II. Volunteers Needed

These lists will be split between Specific Events & On-Going Volunteer Positions, as well as Special Request positions by the FMSD Leadership.

On-Going:

  • Ambassadors
    • Ambassador is a role designed for the more social men amongst our membership. The Ambassadors role is to welcome new and returning attendees, as well as providing basic club information. We ask that as an Ambassador you be available for one social event a month. [Ambassadors will be given 2VP per Event Hour]
  • Instructors/Hosts
    • Instructors & Hosts are needed to help in putting together the events for FMSD. These positions are directly involved with planning events. Instructors are in charge of leading workshops or being available to assist in workshops, while Hosts act as facilitarors for discussion and friendliness during socials and discussion groups. [Instructors & Hosts will be given 5-10VP per event lead]
  • Promotion
    • Promoters are asked to assist in spreading the word about FMSD events across multiple platforms, as well as bringing other events to our attention. A Promoter should be able to easily use Social Media Outlets such as Facebook, Fetlife, Email, Blogspot, Recon, etc. and be available to share posts to the Fetish Men Pages for the membership to see. [Promoters will be given 1VP weekly for sharing events]
  • Set-Up/Teardown
    • Each of our events has some degree of Set-Up and Teardown, whether that be arriving early and arranging furniture and putting out food, or staying late to do some cleaning. This team is absolutely necessary for any and all events put on my FMSD. [Members of this team will be given 2VP for each role they fill per event.]

Event Specific:

  • Dungeon Monitors (DMs)
    • DMs are asked to monitor play spaces and events to prevent safety violations and guideline violations. To be a Dungeon Monitor, you will be asked to go through a small training with an existing DM. [DMs will ben given 3VP per Volunteer Hour]

FMSD Leadership

  • Advisor
    • Advisors are closely involved with the Leadership for FMSD. This is a "team" role, and we ask that anyone interested in acting as an advisor for FMSD be available to meet with the current Leadership once a month for discussion. [Advisors will be given 1VP per Hour of attended meetings.]
  • Archiving Team
    • We are looking to build a team of men who are willing to work as FMSD Archivists. This role can be as few or as many men as we like, and will be co-led by Scott and Papa Tony; the role of the Archivist Team is to document events, write reviews and generate interest for future events, all while keeping a lively record of this history of FMSD. [Archivists VP will be awarded based on contribution.]

III. Who Qualifies?

To Volunteer, the only prerequisite is that you ATTEND a Fetish Men San Diego event! After which, we ask that you email DoriamFMSD@GMail.com with what you are interested in volunteering for; you may be asked a few questions thereafter as well.

For Ambassadors, Instructors, and Hosts we recommend you have a willingness to be extroverted and welcoming to the new folk, as it makes the position much easier on you. For DMs, we ask that you have a good grasp on multiple forms of play and that you know what to look for to prevent risk; we can train if needed.

For most first-time volunteers, you may be paired with another volunteer to shadow and see the requirements of the position before being left on your own.

IV. What Do I Get?

Promotion Flyer 9/2/17 (Past)
You may have noticed the bracketed text after each volunteer position above. If you did not, they read:
"[This position] be will be given [#]VP per [source]."
What this means is that each position will award the acting volunteer with a number of Volunteer Points (VP) that the Leadership will keep track of. Volunteer Points can be used at a 1VP-to-1$ Ratio when purchasing tickets to events.

For Example:
Johnny has 10VP and wants to attend the Big Party in February, which costs $25. Johnny cashes in his 10VP and pays the $15 difference for the event.
Additionally, if you are volunteering for an event, you are invited to attend the event for free - except for parties. If you are Volunteering for a party, you will be asked to purchase a reduced cost ticket for the portion that you will not be volunteering during.

For Example:
Johnny volunteers for First Shift DM at the February Party ($25) from 8p-10p, he earns 6VP for working his shift, and instead of paying for the entirety of the party, he pays instead $15.
Volunteer Points may NOT be used at the same party they are earned. In the example above, Johnny has 6 points added to his account for the next event, but still has to pay the $15.

V. Fingers Crossed

The Leadership of FMSD has been trying to figure out a way to give more to our volunteers. We are hoping that by gaining your involvement, and by growing our organization, we may be able to give one more big reward to the Volunteers.

Come July, we would like to be able to take up-to 5 Volunteers with us to Up Your Alley in San Francisco as a Thank You for your involvement with FMSD! We will announce the Gentleman who we feel have committed themselves as volunteers in June. There is a lot of work that will go in to making this happen, so please stay tuned!

IV. From ME to YOU

Hello Gents! Thank you again for supporting us in our endeavors to grow this club and brotherhood! I would love to hear more from you as we continue to grow. I understand than many men avoid using Facebook as a means for communication as we continue forward, however it is my only means of effective communication in collecting data for future workshops and events. As of right now, we have run two polls for Party Frequency and Workshop topics, if you have not voted or did not see these polls because you aren't on Facebook, please email me and let me know your thoughts! I am open to other suggestions for better communication methods for these polls! We are currently thinking about 4 parties each year (2 Large, 2 Small), and the top votes for workshops are Bondage Based and Body Workship/Torture based.

Also, we are looking for more venues for socials and events. We would like eventually to host up to 4 events each month with FMSD including a Social, a Workshop, and Discussion Group and a "Special" event each month. For that, we need space to do so, if you know of ANY spaces that may be willing to accommodate us, reach out to me by emailing: DoriamFMSD@GMail.com

Lastly, keep an eye out for another blog post coming shortly! It goes over our NEW Volunteer Program, and the perks that come with being a volunteer! Expect that in your Inboxes within the next 48hours if you are subscribed to this blog!

Doriam C

TONIGHT! Impact Play @ San Diego Eagle - 9PM to Midnight!

Impact Play Demo w/ Jerry

Impact Play Demo w/ Jerry
Friday, October 06, 2017
9:00pm to Midnight
San Diego Eagle
Support the venue, otherwise free to attend

Join us on the First Friday of October from 9 to Midnight at the San Diego Eagle where our Brother Jerry, along with a few other FMSD Members, will be demonstrating flogging, paddling, and other forms of physical impact play!

This is your chance to learn what it's like to find pleasure in different sensations. The sting of a paddle as it collides with your ass, or the thud of a flogger while it brushes against your back before a quick crack sends tingling across all of your senses. Who knows, you might like it more than you thought.
