There will be a FACEBOOK PARTY at 6PM on Wednesday, January 25th, and hosted by FetishMenSanDiego. This is meant to bring back the old ANDROS parties from before some of you were born, in the days when men had to do their online cruising using a 300-baud telephone modem. ANDROS was our local San Diego gay men's BBS where you could actually post really tiny online pics, discuss the issues of the day and set up dates for later.
This was a VERY advanced technology for the time, and mostly reserved for men who could decipher the text-based interfaces that weren't particularly user-friendly. It was a great way to meet fellow gay nerds, that's for sure!
There weren't any digital cameras back then, and flatbed scanners cost about $2,000, unlike the inexpensive commodities that they are now, so racy pics were precious, few and highly prized. If you wanted to create your own inexpensively, you had to insert a device into your dot-matrix printer that would sweep back and forth to scan an image, which still looked bad.
The technology has changed, but the need for face-to-face interaction hasn't.
Just like the old ANDROS parties at a local bar, the FACEBOOK PARTY will include name-tags at the entrance, which will contain your online identity handle/nickname. It's a great ice-breaker. The goal for this event is to create new opportunities for people to connect interpersonally, rather than just digitally.
