Attendees are invited to bring a basic pair of boots or a garment that needs some basic work (cleaning/conditioning) and any bootblacking supplies they may already own. There will be opportunities for some hands-on practice. If you don’t have supplies, the basics should be available to borrow.

Leather is a thread that wove this subculture within the gay men’s, LGBTQI+, and greater society together, the connections these men formed ran much deeper than just fabric. They are leathermen —proud of their identities, their community, and the space they had carved out in a world that often rejected them.

A Leatherman is an umbrella term that most often included those who engage in BDSM, Kink, and fetishes. There is a long history of leathermen that in modern times go back to the 1930s and 40s. Since then it has changed and evolved. Many leathermen have guiding principles or values that show up in their lives weather or not they are wearing leather that makes them who they are. The leather subculture incorporates BDSM into one’s lifestyle. Leather has different meanings and associations to us. It can be symbolic of strength and power as well as sexiness and danger. Leather/animal skins is a useful and practical material that is used for clothing, and other useful items not the least for floggers and restraints.

Some of the qualities that can be associated with a leatherman are caring, integrity, honesty, growth, and passion. Your personal values are a central part of who you are – and who you want to be.

Come ready to share your thoughts and ideas that we will explore through discussion on such topics as:
  • What is a leatherman?
  • What is/was the draw for each of us to this community?
  • What are “leather / kink” values?
  • What does leather mean to me? The community?
  • How do we show up as leather every day and how do we come together as a community of leathermen?

What: "Leather 101: <intense> Play" at PECS Bar, 6-9pm
    When: Thr 21 NOV, 6-9pm
    Where: PECS Bar

Leather 101 is an educational series set up by Mr. San Diego Leather 2024 in coordination with San Diego's experienced educators to provide a safe space for those who are curious to explore leather, kink, and fetishes that they have always been interested in, but didn't know how or where to begin.
Classes will rotate between different locations monthly so that learners can experience more of San Diego's LGBT spaces, and to accommodate the needs of each course.

Class 6: Presented by Alpha Rob
Get ready for an intimate evening of discovery and exploration, as we delve into the world of <intense> play. This interactive workshop will guide you through the basics of <intense> play, emphasizing safety, communication, and consent.
Experience the sensual thrill of this unique practice and learn how to incorporate it into your personal connections. Our featured educator, Alpha Rob, will provide a comprehensive introduction, covering:
    - Safety protocols and hygiene best practices
    - Communication techniques
    - Various <intense> play techniques and styles

This course will be held at PECS on the lower patio bar area. While the event is scheduled 6pm- 9pm to allow time to be social, class will start promptly at 7pm to be respectful of our educator's time.
This is a free event but purchasing drinks from our host location is encouraged. 🙂
