Discussion: Trans Masculinity, Wed, Feb 8 7:00PM - 9:00PM

Subject: Join Us for an FMSD Panel Discussion on Transmasculinity


Hello all!
FMSD is excited to announce the details for the February FMSD Discussion! Wednesday, Feb 8th, from 7-9pm. 

*** This event will be held indoors ***
Proof of COVID vaccination, or recent test, is required.

This month we will be hearing from a part of our community that is often overlooked and underrepresented. Trans masculine people have always been part of Leather and queer culture, yet their experiences are not celebrated despite navigating the same spaces as queer cis men. 

We will be hearing from 4 trans masculine people about their journeys in Leather followed by a Q&A. Many thanks go to Sanjay for bringing this idea forward and organizing the panelists.  

The hope for this discussion is to help break the stigma around trans men being intimate in Leather spaces, address general misconceptions, and for folks to come away with some concrete steps to help create spaces that are inclusive for all forms of masculinity.

The leather subculture within the gay community has been around since the late 1940s. Since then it has changed and evolved. The leather subculture incorporates BDSM into one’s lifestyle. Leather has different meanings and associations to us. It can be symbolic of strength and power as well as sexiness and danger. Leather/animal skins is a useful and practical material that is used for clothing, and other useful items including floggers and restraints. Some of the qualities that can be associated with a Leatherman are caring, integrity, honesty, growth, and passion.

Here we will explore through discussion:
  • •  What is a Leatherman?
  • •  What is/was the draw for each of us to this community?
  • •  What does leather mean to me? The community?
  • •  How do we come together as a community of Leathermen and show up?

It is the hope that this exploration will get us all thinking about what is leather, what the leather community is, and how we fit into it in our own way.  Please come with an open heart and mind.

San Diego Men's Rope Bondage workshop starts Tuesday, 17 January 2023.

Sir Francis came out to the Leather community in 2013. He is fully committed to promoting Safe, Sane and Consensual BDSM play among leather men and women by sharing any and all safe practices he has learned. His practice has a strong spiritual connection.

He is married and happily with his husband for over 30yrs. 

In 2016 he was taken into the La Follette Leather family as Officer Wes’s slave.

Workshop goals/objectives:

- Establish self-awareness towards aspects of bondage (what I like/dislike about it)
- Establish awareness and acknowledgment of abilities (I can do this but not that)
- Develop a comfort level with negotiating a rope bondage scene
- Develop basic safe rope bondage skills
- Be creative with the ties you know and have a good time

Workshop requirements:

- If attending with a known partner: Each will register separately; Each will assume Top and bottom roles during the workshop
- If attending independently: independent attendees will be paired randomly with one another
- Rope lengths and scissor requirements: (2) 30ft and (2) 15ft lengths and adequate scissors
- Commitment to being safe is required: Commitment will be assessed by attendance and practice
- If you miss a session you may continue with this workshop.
- However, progression to next level workshops require attendance to ALL sessions and return demonstration of basic ties 

Workshop will be (4) days over (4) consecutive weeks. Each session will be approximately 3hrs long.

Workshop location is in the North Park area. The address will be sent prior to the start date.

Space is limited and pre-registration in required.

Workshop dates are 1/17, 1/24, 1/31, 2/7.

Description of Event: Bootblack Workshop


I don't know about you but my leathers are dusty 'cuz they have been neglected in the closet for the past couple of years thanks to COVID cancelling the events and restricting our social encounters.



From the presenter: Taking care of leathers can be a simple task, a service, or an erotic exchange of energy. For some it is a fetish for a type of boot, an act of community service, or an expression of service to a select few people. The individuals that take on the identity of being someone that cares for leathers and boots are often called bootblacks.


This class will be an introduction to the basics of taking care of high shine and oil tan boots and leather garments with some discussion on how it can be used in different contexts.


If you would like to participate with your own supplies here’s a small list to get you started:

- Glycerin soap or saddle soap: as pure glycerin as possible. As far as I know Neutrogena is still ok to use

- Horse/boar hair shaving brush or horsehair dauber brush for soap

- Spray bottle of water

- Microfiber or terry cloth towels

- Hard wax polish

- Lint-free cut up t-shirts

- Leather conditioner: Huberds (shoe oil or shoe grease), Obenaufs, Fiebings Aussie, Chelsea Leather


Optional:

- Creme polish

- Toothbrush

- Horse hair buffing brush

- Gloves

- Q-tips

- nylons


Bio: Bootpup Rune (he/they) is a leatherboy switch who started his kink and leather journey in 2017. He has a love for connecting with others through education and bringing visibility to marginalized communities.


He is currently volunteering on the Board of Club X and is active in several other groups including San-PAH, an ageplay group, and a power exchange group.


As a bonus for reading this far (Congrats!) Scott will offer photography of you in your freshly cleaned and polished leather gear. 



It's also a potluck so break out your best entrée or appetizer to share with the group. We will provide soda/pop/soft drinks, chips and salsa and queso.

Bring a couple of towels! You'll need one to sit on and one to dry off after you brave the unheated waters of the pool.

Are you interested in sharp shiny objects? Does the idea of piercing the flesh give you a thrill? Have you been wondering what it's all about and why we want to do it? 

This course will cover equipment, safety protocol & play techniques. I will go over the use of a variety of length and gauge sharps.  I will touch on the use of needles for suspension and explain how to use the human production of endorphins to enhance the experience for all participants. Come join us as we crawl under the skin.

About our Presenter:

I began my leather journey around age 17 when I met a Sir who took me under his wing and taught me several fundamental lessons. I was trained in various protocol styles, negotiations and consent. The lesson I hold dearest = “You must learn to be a good bottom before you can become a great top”. This lesson has allowed me to become a true switch. 

Over the years I have been pup and boy, and now I am Sir and Alpha. I am thankful to the men who have taken the time to train me as I go forth to do the same for others. I am an active member of House of AndOr, Club X San Diego, Fetish Men San Diego, and am a Delta Brother. My list of kink is extensive but above all I am an experimentalist. I have presented at SD Leather Pride, Kinky Kollege, Fetish Men San Diego, Delta Brotherhood International, Club X San Diego, and Drummer Palm Springs.
