Rare, Yet Numerous… SWEETIE PRIDE!!!

Here is what happened at last night's Men's Discussion, with the theme of "Please Understand Me":

I brought several computers and handheld devices to the meeting. On each one, I went to humanmetrics.com, and on the upper left, clicked on the "Jung Typology Test" under "Take a Test".  This brought me to an easy, brief test of 72 "either-or" questions, which ascertains which one of the sixteen specific personality types you may be classified under.

Using iPhones, iPad, and several laptops, everybody was administered the test.  Then, they were given printed sheets that represented the first page of the twenty-or-so pages of information about their individual personality-type, that I quickly emailed to every man present. Then, they broke up into smaller circles of discussion with men who shared THEIR personality-type. My goodness, what a happy racket!

If you are doing this at home:

Once you find out what your four-digit code is, IMMEDIATELY Google that code and read everything you can find. If the part you're reading looks like baffling psycho-babble, skip it - Go for the paragraphs that relate to you. The test truly DOES do a highly-accurate job of clarifying your nature. It's like looking into a clear mirror for the first time in your life.

Then, send a copy of what you find to your loved ones and ask them for their opinion. You'll quite definitely get an overwhelming chorus of "Yes, that's YOU!"

This can change your life. It certainly changed mine.

I first took this test sixteen years ago, and that is when I transitioned from being "just some peculiar guy" to being "Papa Tony". I discovered that the personal quirks that made me weird and unable to fit in as a young man, are actually my super-powers as I have matured. As a rare ENFP type, I am NOT like most people, and that's okay.  As the last sixteen years have progressed, I've grown more and more comfortable inside my own skin. I'm really GOOD at being me.

So, I want my brothers to be every bit as self-assured in their true natures. There is no down-side, ever.

It may have startled others in the room when I announced it at the meeting, but NINE of the sixteen personality-types were nowhere to be found in the room of about 25 men… and yes, it was a small sample.  But a highly representative one, in my expert opinion.  I believe, based on my intimate knowledge of FMSD's dynamics, that many folks simply don't have the driving emotional need for deep intimacy and trust that sustains each of our events.

The ones who DO, tend to show up.  A lot.

The personality-types that showed up at last night's meeting are RARE.  Like, as in, less than five percent of the adult male population. Combined. This may surprise you, but not me.

As one startling example: According to what I'm finding on the Web, INFJ's (male and female) take up around one percent of the population - Male INFJ's take up less than half that. And there were FIVE of them at the meeting last night!

I call FMSD a "Nature Preserve for Sweeties".  For men with the kind of emotional wiring that craves interpersonal connection the MOST, FMSD represents a series of Guaranteed Safe Spaces.  You can show up, be as sweet as you want, and you can ALWAYS trust the result.

The best news?  We may be rare in terms of the larger population, but we are NUMEROUS at FMSD events because the word has gotten out.

That's why our brotherhood is growing so FAST. The rare, sensitive and fraternally-oriented gay fetishmen of our community are showing up and STAYING. So, the numbers rise, and they bring their sweetie-pie friends and loved ones.

People who are hard-wired for lower-volume emotional connections simply can't understand all of that hugging, smooching, cuddling, closeness and deeply-felt interrelating.  They aren't wrong, or broken, or bad - They simply don't see the point. They are happy the way that they are. They will show up if they feel that they might get laid, or if there is cheap beer, but hold the hugs with strangers. PLEASE.

That's okay.

For those of us who DO desire interconnectedness on a primal, Tribal level, it's like vitamins for our souls. We STARVE for it, if we are not getting it. Deprivation literally harms us, and shortens our lives. FMSD was formed to fill the need for closeness, kindness, trust, and hugs.

Tribe.

The reason why the INFJ/ENFP/whatever topic is so important right now is because each week's discussion has been intentionally driving toward better understanding of ourselves, and others that we may want to invest in as lifelong friends.

Bottom line of last night's discussion:

If you can't help being the way that you are, be GOOD at it!

Upcoming Events

Good news: Aaron did NOT need to have his appendix out. It was some other darned thing, no doubt as a result of his being in a car-crash last week. He's sore, but healing!

Speaking as somebody who has been around a LONG time, I'm here to tell you that our local Tribe is  a very, very healthy one.  We have SO many choices, and so many of them are excellent. Even if you chose to attend only ONE of the events this week, you wouldn't go wrong:

SOMEBODY had to be the Practice Dummy!

- Tonight (Tuesday), March 5, 7PM : Hands-On Demo Night at the Eagle, at 3040 North Park Way. I will be handing out free two-DVD data disk sets that contain 220 Bondage instructional videos by Two Knotty Boys.  I've downloaded the free videos, and converted them from nasty, obsolete Flash video format to MPEG4, which any iPhone, Android or iPad can play. Why is this important?  Because you can stop, rewind a bit, and go "Oh - THAT's where I screwed up!"  You don't have to learn all 220 techniques - Just pick one that pleases you, practice-practice-practice, and then thrill the hell out of everybody when you show off your stuff!

Even during the ten-minute Bio Break, we can't stop bonding as friends!

- Wednesday, March 6, 7PM: Men's Discussion. The topic tonight is "Please Understand Me". It'll be an unusual discussion, but a very useful and meaningful one. There will be laptops and an iPad in full use, along with a printer! Of all of our discussions so far, this one has the highest likelihood of transforming your life in a joyful way.

Wednesday, March 6, 10PMDayton's Birthday Debauchery - It's pretty heavily-promoted, and they are expecting a crowd.

Public debut of the Puppy Play Fire Hydrant. No, it's not a cake: Click here.

I will DEFINITELY be there, with my toys, since I have been invited to do so.  I will be on the JOB all night long, celebrating 36 years in the Leather Community!

- Thursday, March 7, 10PM: Yellow Hankies Night at the Eagle, at 3040 North Park Way.

- Friday, March 8, 10PM: HARNESS PARTY at Numbers Bar, at 3811 Park Blvd. This event is getting much, MUCH bigger all of a sudden. It's continuing to be a fully Tribal-endorsed event, with a strong brotherhood vibe.  If there is something you want to try, march right up to one of us and ask nicely.  You will get your wish!

Our Virtual Host, James in Afghanistan. James is working out a LOT,
since he has no social life, with no days off, ever.
Who wants to welcome him home properly in July?

- Saturday, March 9, 7PM onward, starting at Baja Betty's, at 1421 University AveGear Invasion of Mo's Universe.  This is something radically new, that only young, vibrantly-creative folks could have thought of. The concept: Many of us have gear, such as harnesses or other fetishwear. Why not wear it to NON-leather bars and in between, representing how our Tribe has grown and gained so much happiness? Basically, we are being "Titleholders for the Night", showing the larger community how friendly, brotherly and HOT we are: joyful, diverse and stable brothers in a Tribe that is all about mutual support. We will be continuing the dream of our brother James, who started the ball rolling before he got yanked overseas.

Upcoming Events

As always, check the FMSD monthly calendar-at-a-glance, which contains news about ALL known upcoming events.

Our brother James in Afghanistan.
This event is in his honor.

There is a wonderful new event coming up in a week, on Saturday the 9th.  Mr. San Diego Leather 2012 Aaron will be hosting a special geared-up event that spans the length of Hillcrest (with free shuttle-service between the bars). The owners and staff of the beloved bars Baja Betty's, Hillcrest Brewing Company, Gossip Grille and Urban Mo's gladly welcome us, and are doing everything they can to make us feel extra-welcome (including gearing-up themselves).

This is a sign of how things have changed in our town.  We are an eagerly-sought-after demographic.  I urge everybody to SWAMP this event.  It's going to be a breakthrough! Let's show our larger community that we are visible and proud! I will be organizing group-hug photos that we can send to James...

Up in San Francisco, they are celebrating Leather Alliance Weekend, starting today.  Mr. San Diego Leather 2012 Aaron would be up there already, except he's in the Emergency Room at the moment, getting his appendix removed! Honestly - he should have scheduled it for early September!

Gear Invasion of Mo's Universe

Please join Mr San Diego Leather 2012 - Aaron Duke for a Gear Invasion of Mo's Universe:

Saturday, March 9th.

The night begins at 7pm at Baja Betty's. Then it is off to Hillcrest Brewing Company from 8-9pm and Gossip Grille from 9-10. The last stop is Mo's from 10-midnight. The staff will be providing shuttle service to Mo's. In addition, they are encouraging their staff to gear up and support us that night. We are working on having drink and shot specials for each venue.

This is our opportunity to share with the greater LGBT community what we are like when we are at our best. Therefore, we can break through stereotypes they may have before engaging us. Here is an opportunity for us to break out of our usual hang outs.

Finally, this is for our brother, James who is serving in Afghanastan. Before he left for his deployment, we had a gear dinner for him. He encouraged us to become more visible in the LGBT community and not just isolate within our own affinity groups and environments. As his brother, I am honoring this request. Please come out and support this event and our brother, James who can't enjoy it with us.

We encourage you all to gear up as a visual identifier and symbol of our community. Whatever gear that you choose to express your fetish. Please remember, these are restaurants and places of business. Use good taste and adhere to the San Diego Vice Laws.

Status Report

Lots and lots of new stuff in the pipeline is coming up. More info will be made available as plans are solidified.  The bottom line is that our local Tribe is THRIVING like never before. Lots of new, risky, exciting and thoroughly innovative events and concepts are coming that will only make our community stronger.

We are now at the point where we are taken much more seriously, and we are seen as the Admirable Men of the larger community.  We are loved and welcomed wherever we go. Businesses seek us out, wanting our good will. Other communities want to work with us, leaders want to ally themselves with us, and other local and worldwide groups are studying our efforts in order to try them out as well.

We continue to astonish the other Tribes in the major cities of the world with how MUCH we get done. More and more folks are seeing San Diego's successes as the model to emulate. When our local champions travel to other cities ANYWHERE, they are treated like rock gods. They are begged for insider information on how San Diego is getting so much accomplished.

It's an amazing team effort, with more and more new leaders and volunteers finding their groove together. Our brothers are gaining confidence and experience, on an interpersonal level and on a public level. On a kinky level, we are gaining more and more and MORE "cocky Tops," who are actively learning new techniques (and the underlying philosophy that makes the fun happen). I think that we can agree that every thriving community needs lots of those.

On a personal level, I am doing a lot of coaching with men who are actively growing and gaining wisdom by the day.  Their biggest problem is that they are having to deal with enormous amounts of admiration, approval and lusty invitations in quantities that they have never encountered before. If you have to have problems, excessive popularity one of the better ones.

You're getting the idea - We now have many, many more good choices than we had just a few years ago. Rather than settling down and getting into a nice, comfy rut, we are going to be shaking things up on a regular basis. This is going to be very fun!
